The impact of our activities across Africa reaches beyond the guests who walk through our doors. Through our businesses, we focus on improving lives and transforming Africa one step at a time by driving positive social and environmental change in our communities, employees and supply chain. We track the environmental foot print to conserve natural resources and reduce environmental impact across our hotels. Some of our key initiatives include:
ENERGY & GREENHOUSE EFFECT
We reduced our impact on the environment by installing more efficient energy saving equipment as well as providing training for our team members.
WATER-SAVE EVERY DROP
We worked hard to reduce our use of water through informing team members of best practices and installing water efficient equipment such as low-ow shower heads and taps.
Donation of old bed sheets which are recycled to make small gift bags.
Collection and delivery of old newspaper to NaijaBrics to produce Briquettes used for cooking which serves as an alternative to wood, kerosene or This initiative not only preserves the environment, it also empowers the rural community women who sell the cooking briquettes.
Across our key locations, the products and services we procure and consume help us support our local economies while ensuring the comfort and well-being of our guests and colleagues.
SOAP FOR HOPE PROJECT
An estimated seven million children in developing countries, including Nigeria, pass away every year due to diarrhoea and respiratory disease swhich can be prevented by a simple but effective practice: proper hand - washing with soap.
WASTE RECYCLING WITH CHANJA DATTI
Over the past 2 years and as part of Transcorp Hilton’s Travel with Purpose commitment, we embarked on an intense recycling initiative in the hotel.
We partnered with Chanja Datti, an NGO specialising in waste management to recycle rubber, pet bottles, cans, irons, cartons, leather and paper consolidated by the administrative and operations department in the hotel. This initiative is our triple bottom line business approach – Profit, Planet and People to make the society we operate in a better place. Between January 1,2018 and April 30, 2018, the hotel generated 12 tonnes of recyclable waste collected by Chanja Datti for recycling.
