Last week, Transcorp Hilton Abuja hosted presidents from different parts of Africa who were either at the hotel for a meeting of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) or an extraordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). The week ended with funny bones, baby chefs, and a cup winner who came to watch a final he dreams to play in.
Africa’s Best Rendition of “Champions League”
The UEFA Champions League is the world’s greatest club competition. But almost as iconic as the trophy won at the end of the competition is the UEFA Champions League Anthem, which is played inside the stadium before the start of each UEFA Champions League match. Special vocal versions have been performed live at the Champions League Final by Andrea Bocelli, Juan Diego Flores, Jonas Kaufmann, and David Garrett, 2Cellos, among other international acts. All these vocal performances were in Europe but last weekend Africa witnessed the best vocal version of the anthem ever performed on the continent and it did not happen at a stadium; it happened at Transcorp Hilton Abuja’s Capital Bar. Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi missed the choir’s performance but he came early enough to congratulate Funny Bone who had no jokes until his team lifted the Champions League trophy. Reality TV Star Kiddwaya also joined them to watch the match after he showed off his cooking skills at our kitchen and gifted the food to a lucky fan. Cook more, chef!

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was at Transcorp Hilton during the week for the official announcement of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), an initiative of his office in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The programme is targeted at Nigerian graduates and is expected to train 20,000 graduates annually.

The first-ever CAF Safety and Security Train the Trainers Workshop organized by the Confederation of African Football teed off in Nigeria on Thursday, with participants from host Nigeria, Liberia, Algeria, South Africa, Eswatini, Uganda, Namibia, Seychelles, Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Niger Republic, Ghana, and Kenya.
