Eyes on the goal: A Leader and a Sport.

The Award winning Transcorp Hilton Abuja is known for many things but most of all it is known for playing host to historic moments and sightings of notable people in Africa and across the globe. This week saw the likes of  Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State,  H.E. Mrs Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, First Lady of the Republic of Gambia,  Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, Mr Choi Jong-Kun and other public officers, grace the grounds of Transcorp Hilton Abuja.

Also this week at the hotel, all eyes were on the goal as last weekend was one of the most anticipated sporting moments with the return of club football and hopefully the permanent return of fans to stadiums after COVID-19 forced the gates of the grounds shut across the world.

There is a lot to be said about how COVID affected the business of sport and every industry that benefitted from it indirectly, including the Capital Bar at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, which was packed full on the night Chelsea lifted the UEFA Champions League. It has been full on other nights since then, but nothing close to the night of May 29th. We all feel the absence of football, but now it’s back!

As major European leagues start the new season, it’s not just the arrival of marquee signings like Lionel Messi that is exciting, but the fact that fans are back in the stadiums, and for us, the return of guests who will come just to see a game in one of the best places to choose from. The Capital Bar is always ready for kick offs and all we ask our guests to do is put on a mask to stay safe.

We look forward to every matchday ritual, the banter, the display of absolute loyalty by fans and the real issues football is bringing to the fore.

Football Fandom in 2021 report commissioned by Sky Sports finds an overwhelming 70 per cent of people in the United Kingdom feel footballers have helped the nation get talking about discrimination, while 63 per cent believe they have a better understanding of social and economic issues because of their love of football. These numbers are similar in most places as the influence of the beautiful game keeps expanding globally.

Weekends will never remain the same again, at least for the next 9 months, so will Capital Bar at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where football fans will be able to catch every game over drinks with friends.
